TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Supreme Court has upheld the Shawnee County conviction of a man given a “Hard 25” life sentence for a murder conviction.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the court ruled Friday that the sentence was justified in the case of Jamil Michael Fulton who was convicted in the 2005 gang-related killing of Christopher Caraway.
The court in a unanimous decision rejected Fulton’s contention that there was insufficient evidence to warrant a conviction. The court also rejected Fulton’s claim that he should have been granted a new trial because his defense counsel failed to request a trial separate from co-defendant Robert Patterson, who wasn’t convicted in the case.
Caraway was found shot to death in a parking lot.
