USD 383 board approves budget for publication and hears from concerned parents

USD 383 school board member Wednesday night voted to approve the publication of option three for the 2011-2012 budget.  This option was one of four that was presented to the school board.  While the majority of the board members agreed on option three, Walt Pesarisi  had concerns.

Option three would increase personal property tax by $78 and commercial business property tax by $293.  Although this option will be published, board members will still have the abilty to lower this amount if they find they are able to.  President Doug Messer says he will continue to review the options.

The publication of option three was passed with a vote of 5-1.

Also Wednesday night, concerned parents of Woodrow Wilson students voiced their disappointment in the facilities being provided to their children.  Construction at Woodrow Wilson is behind, which means 3rd and 4th graders will be moved to Northview and 5th and 6th graders will be moved to Eisenhower Middle School for a short time until construction is finished.  The main concern parents had was their 5th and 6th graders being exposed to the middle school environment.  Parent, Janet Nichols says she feels let down by the situation.

Woodrow Wilson Principal, Eric Koppes assured the parents he would take every measure to ensure a smooth transition for the students. Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will remain in the Woodrow Wilson building when school starts.
