County surplus auction gets underway; Pillsbury Road closing this week

If you’re looking to find a bargain on a piece of farming equipment, you might want to check out the Riley County surplus auction.

A total of 35 pieces of county property are up for bidding at www.purplewave.com. The equipment has been used by the county for a number of years.

“This is older equipment that has served its purpose for Riley County and been replaced over the past few years,” assistant public works director Rod Meredith said. “It’s from all different departments, not just road and bridge”

There is a wide range of equipment up for bidding, with properties ranging from dump trunks and back hoes to power brooms, and sandspreaders (among other things). The county’s possessions can be viewed before a bid is placed.

“We do have it all lined up at the public works shop facility located at 6215 Tuttle Creek Boulevard,” Meredith said. “Anyone is welcome to view the equipment between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.”

Bids will be accepted until 10 a.m. September 29.

Meredith announced on Monday that Pillsbury Road just outside of Manhattan will be closed this coming Wednesday. The closure is expected to last the entire day. The public works department will be replacing a rusted-over culvert during that time. Meredith expects the road to be re-opened the following day.
