A Union Pacific Railroad coal train has derailed in Pottawatomie County near the town of Emmett at 3:50am Monday morning. According to Union Pacific Railroad spokesman Mark Davis no one was injured in the incident.
The train was comprised of 56 cars, and was traveling southbound at the time. Union Pacific Railroad crews have been working nonstop to clear the rail cars, and begin the process of rebuilding the track. The total damages haven’t been assessed, and an investigation into the cause of the derailment will be conducted by several specialized teams of investigators.
Union Pacific Railroad will be cleaning up the area and Davis says folks traveling in the area should be careful to obey safety signs posted by the transportation department.
