TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Transportation Department is naming a highway interchange for a retired state lawmaker who was active in transportation debates.
The honoree is former House member Margaret Long, a Democrat from Kansas City. The interchange at Kansas 7 and U.S. 24/40 in Bonner Springs will be named for Long at a ceremony Oct. 13.
Long served in the House from 1998 through 2010 and was a member of the Transportation Committee throughout her tenure. During her time on the committee, legislators enacted major transportation programs, in 1999 and 2010.
Long was the committee’s ranking Democrat from 2001 through 2010. She did not seek re-election last year.
