    New district lines approved; surplus auction results

    The Riley County commission formally approved new district lines during a meeting on Monday.

    The motion to accept the new boundaries passed unanimously amongst the board of commissioners.

    The Riley County Historical Society and Museum will host the fifth in a series of six lectures in the “Kansas 150 Look Back Lecture Series” later this week.

    Presenting this week is former Manhattanite Tim Stites, will give his “Manhattan in Postcards” lecture. The lecture will review the history of Manhattan as illustrated through postcards.

    The lecture begins on Thursday, October 6 at 7 p.m. at the Manhattan Public Library. The program is free and open to the public

    The Riley County commission received the results of the county’s surplus auction at Monday’s meeting.

    Assistant public works director Rod Meredith reported that this year’s auction netted $198,000 for the county.

    A motor grader received the highest bid at $55,000.

    Meredith said the money raised through the auction, which was hosted by Purple Wave, will go toward purchasing replacement equipment.
