TOPEKA — Despite the unusual circumstances of a Thursday night matchup, Manhattan High football made sure it was business as usual against Topeka High, taking down the Trojans 60-13 at Hummer Sports Park.
The Indians (5-2) extended their winning streak to five games and improved to 3-0 in Centennial League play, setting up a potential winner-take-all matchup for the league title against Washburn Rural next week if the Junior Blues beat Junction City on Friday.
“It’s just a constant battle to stay focused, stay motivated and give great effort,” head coach Joe Scartz said. “We’ve gotten better at that as the season’s gone along, and but we still have some improvement to do.”
For the first time in league play this season, Manhattan found itself trailing early Thursday night. But after the Indians responded with seven unanswered scores to take a 45-7 halftime lead, the damage had been done before the break once again.
