If the Kansas State Wildcats had any lingering effects of jet lag resulting from their long flight from Hawaii, they didn’t show it on Saturday afternoon in their first home game since December 11.
Rodney McGruder led five players in double figures and K-State knocked down a season-high 13 3-pointers including 10 in the first half as the Wildcats ran their winning streak to six games with an 82-46 blowout at Bramlage Coliseum. Also scoring in double figures for Kansas State were Will Spradling with 13 points despite missing most of the first half after picking up two early fouls, Angel Rodriguez with 11 and Jamar Samuels and Jeremy Jones with 10 apiece. After Howard led early 3-0, Spradling nailed two treys in a row and the Wildcats never trailed again building up a 68-21 lead with 12:51 remaining in the game before going on a six-minute scoring drought.
K-State is now 11-1 on the season with the non-conference portion of their schedule behind them and now looks ahead to the Big 12 opener against arch-rival Kansas on Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks are 9-3 on the season after they dispatched of the Bison on Thursday night. K-State has not won in Lawrence since 2006 and has just two wins at “The Phog” since 1989.
