K-State hands #3 Missouri first home loss

For the second time in just a little over 72 hours, the Kansas State Wildcats Men’s Basketball team knocked off a Top 10 team on its home floor.  After edging #10 Baylor 57-56 in Waco on Saturday, K-State went into Columbia, Missouri Tuesday evening, a place that has not been friendly to the Wildcats over the years.  In fact, coming into the game K-State had dropped 25 of its last 27 games in Mid-Missouri since 1985.

Rodney McGruder led the way with 24 points and Thomas Gipson added 13 as K-State dropped the #3 Tigers 78-68 before a stunned crowd at Mizzou Arena.  K-State used strong defense and solid shooting to grab a 43-30 halftime lead and stretched the advantage to 61-45 with 15 minutes remaining.  However, the Tigers went on a 15-2 run to slice the lead down to 63-60 just a few minutes later.  K-State then used some key buckets by Angel Rodriguez and benefited from missed shots by the Tigers to move back above .500 in Big 12 play.

It’s the first time in school history that K-State has won back-to-back games on the home courts of top 10 teams.
