Erich Weiss and Jonathan Walsh combined for seven hits and seven RBI’s as Texas bested K-State 8-5 on Sunday to win the Big 12 series at Tointon Family Stadium. Weiss swatted a triple and two home runs, while Walsh had a pair of doubles. The Longhorns took an early 4-1 lead, and K-State would tie the game at four in the 5th inning when Mike Kindel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Texas took the lead for good in the top of the 7th on Walsh’s bases clearing double against K-State freshman Robert Youngdahl (0-1), who took the loss. The Cats pulled within 6-5 on Jared King’s RBI triple in the bottom of the 8th. Weiss had a solo homer in the top of the 9th, and Alex Silver knocked in another run. Ross Kivett led K-State at the plate, with three hits and an RBI.
K-State is now 13-10 overall and 2-4 in the Big 12. The Cats will play at Nebraska on Tuesday night at 6:35pm . Coverage on KMAN begins at 6:00 from Hawks Field in Lincoln.
