HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) The Reno County Commission is scheduled to discuss restrictions on shooting at public access points along the Arkansas River.
The issue will be discussed at the commission’s Tuesday meeting, although a specific resolution has not yet been written.
It arose after a stray bullet believed fired from along the river flew through a window of a Nickerson home and landed on a couch next to a mother and her baby. No one was injured.
The Hutchinson News reports County Administrator Gary Meagher and Sheriff Randy Henderson are looking at a resolution that would make it a misdemeanor to fire rifles and pistols within 400 yards of the Arkansas River. It is aimed primarily at public access points near inhabited areas. It would not apply to landowners on their property.
