The Manhattan – Ogden school board meeting Wednesday, June 6 was full of discussion as construction, old business and new business were presented before the board.

The board started off the night with a work session discussing budget, which was followed by the regular business meeting.

The first five items presented to the board had to do with construction issues.  The Manhattan High School East campus had change orders for the gym sprinkler system, the cafeteria kitchen windows, doors and canopy, along with the office blast chiller.  All of these items passed with a 6-0 vote.

The next two items were concerned with the use and disposal of the Theodore Roosevelt and Lee modular units and the funds from the projects.  Again, these two items passed.

The board then received reports where Trisha Brooke-Fruent, the program manager, stated that the Marlatt playground will now be off limits until further notice because of safety issues.

The board was then presented with the old business item concerning the school finance and budget planning.  This item brought about discussion concerning the position of an assistant principal at the high school.  After much debate, the district will be advertising the position for possible applicants.

The new business items again all passed unanimously, thus approving the first reading of the Theodore Roosevelt Pre-K classroom, the second reading of the positions of football assistant coaches at the middle schools, the second reading of the Northview and College Hill Preschool Playground projects, and the budget republication.

Newly appointed school board member, Beth Tatarko, was not in attendance at this meeting.

The next regular business meeting will be June 27 and again because of construction at the East campus, the meeting will not be broadcast.
