Former Riley County and K-State standout Amy Mortimer will start her path towards the London Olympics on Thursday afternoon.  Mortimer will run in the 1500 meter prelims at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon at 5:50pm central time.  She was a multi-time NCAA all-American as a Wildcat in both track and cross country, setting a number of school records.  She won nine state track championships at Riley County, and won the 3A state cross country title all four years of her high school career.

One other current K-State athlete will compete for a spot in London on Thursday.  Wildcat freshman Alyx Treasure will be in the women’s high jump in the Canadian Olympic Trials.  The prelims begin at 6:30pm central in Calgary.  2011 NCAA Champ Ryann Krais will start the first of two days in the heptathlon on Friday at the US Olympic Trials.
