The Geary County Sheriff’s Department has announced a joint operation to combat prostitution earlier this week.
Authorities from the Geary County Sheriff, Junction City Police , and the Grandview Plaza Police Departments ran what is being described as a successful prostitution sting.
According to a news release from Under Sheriff Tony Wolf, contact with individuals involved was made via the internet, from common web sites such as Craigslist and Backpage.com. Once a “date” was set and the elements of the crime were met the arrests were made.
The operation led to the arrest of 16 individuals, identified as prostitutes, pimps, and “johns”. the news release indicates suspects face charges of prostitution, patronizing prostitutes, and promoting prostitution. In addition stolen property was recovered, and there were several alleged cases of drug possession.
