K-State president Kirk Schulz announced Wednesday that athletic director John Currie signed a two-year contract extension. Currie’s deal runs through June 30th, 2018, and will pay him $450,000 for the 2012-13 academic year. He will earn a raise of $25,000 each year, and the extension includes an enhanced retention incentive package.
K-State has seen a surge in nearly every sport since Currie came on the job in May of 2009. This past year, the Wildcat football team finished #8 in the BCS standings, the volleyball team advanced to the Sweet 16, and both basketball teams won a game in the NCAA tournament. Ahearn Fund donations also increased by over 50 percent in his first year, and stand at another record high of over $20 million with three weeks remaining in fiscal year 2012.
