With nine holes to play, the first annual Colbert Charity Classic looked like it would go to a former K-Stater. Robert Streb led the first Adams Golf Pro Tour Series event by three shots at Colbert Hills on Saturday going into the back nine. That’s when Jimmie Marshall, a native Canadian, would take over. Marshall eagled the 10th hole, and then proceeded to birdie six straight holes to finish with an 8-under par 28 coming in at Colbert Hills. He won the tournament at 16-under par, three shots ahead of Streb, who finished at 13-under. Marshall earned a $20,000 paycheck from the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series.
The Colbert Charity Classic will be on the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series schedule for 2013, according to tour executive director Tyler Wolford. The “mini-tour” is a proving ground for young golfers, and has produced PGA tour pros Bubba Watson and Ryan Palmer.
