West beats East again in Kansas Shrine Bowl

0
By KMAN Staff on July 31, 2012 High School Sports, Manhattan High School, Sports

The West continued their dominance over the East in the 39th Kansas Shrine Bowl with 14-7 victory in Emporia, their 6th straight in the series.  A number of area athletes shined including Manhattan High grad and future K-State Wildcat wideout Deante Burton. He had 108 total yards for the West squad on rushing, receiving, and returns, and even threw a pass, althought it was intercepted.   Lining up at wide receiver for the East was Rock Creek’s Logan Miner, who will walk on at K-State.  He caught six passes for 60 yards.

Abilene’s Collin Sexton gave the West all the points they would need for a win in the first quarter with a 54 yard TD reception from Wichita Heights’ Matt Reed.  The West would add the 2-point conversion. Michael Glatczak of Centralia was 3 of 6 passing for 26 yards, but also caught 5 passes for 87 yards including a 55 yard touchdown pass to pull the East within 8-7.  The star of the game was Hutch grad Ja’mon Cotton, who ran 12 times for 60 yards on the West team.  He scored on a 9-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

The 40th Kansas Shrine Bowl will be played in Topeka for the first time in 13 years on July 27th, 2013.
