Coming off a 22-win season and an appearance in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen a year ago, high expectations greeted Coach Susie Fritz and the Kansas State Volleyball team as the 2012 season began this weekend at Ahearn Fieldhouse.
So far things are going as planned as the 22nd-ranked Wildcats have won their first two matches of the Varney’s Invitational. Friday night before more than 2,700 fans, K-State wasted little time in dispatching UC-Irvine in a three-game sweep by scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-12 and this afternoon it was much of the same fate for Oakland University’s Grizzlies as they fell to the Cat netters 25-18, 25-13 and 25-19.
The Varney’s Invitational wraps up this evening at Ahearn Fieldhouse as K-State will take on Oregon State. Live coverage begins at 7:00 on Sports radio 1350 KMAN an on line at www.1350kman.com with Rob Voelker on the call, first serve will be at 7:30.
