An Olympic gold medal in the high jump is within the grasp of K-State’s Erik Kynard. The 21-year old cleared the first three heights of Sunday’s preliminaries without a miss at seven feet one inch, seven feet three inches, and seven feet five inches. Kynard did miss on his attempt at just over seven feet six inches, but came back to hit the mark on his second attempt. He officially tied for third in the prelims with Jesse Williams of the USA. Jamie Nieto of the USA did not clear any of his three chances on the final jump but finished 7th and is onto the finals. All three USA high jumpers train under K-State coach Cliff Rovelto.
The high jump finals will be Tuesday at 1:00pm central time at Olympic Stadium in London.
