Tay Bender served as K-State’s #2 quarterback in the spring after graduating early from Lincoln Southwest High School in Nebraska. Rumors began to surface a couple weeks ago about Bender leaving the Wildcat program. K-State coach Bill Snyder confirmed Monday on the Big 12 teleconference that Bender has left the team, and that Bender has also left school by returning to his home state. Snyder says the #2 quarterback, whether it be Daniel Sams or Sam Johnson, when called upon, will be used in a spot that best suits them.
Reports also surfaced during fall camp that offensive lineman Boston Stiverson had an undisclosed injury. He was projected to start at right guard, and Snyder says Stiverson will miss this Saturday’s game against Missouri State. Stiverson’s replacement for this week does have some experience, as Keenan Taylor will be inserted back into the starting lineup. Taylor, a 6 foot 4 290 pound junior, started last season’s opener against Eastern Kentucky at left guard before being replaced by Nick Puetz.
#22 K-State will host Missouri State this Saturday night at 6:00pm. Powercat Gameday will start our coverage at 2:00 from Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Matt Walters, John Kurtz and Corey Dean will be joined on the show by former Wildcats Kevin Lockett and Dirk Ochs.
K-State also announced Monday that Bill Snyder Family Stadium is sold out for the November 3rd game with Oklahoma State. This is the third game that has been sold out so far this month. A limited number of tickets are still available for games against Miami, FL, Kansas, Texas Tech and Texas. To order tickets, go to kstatesports.com.
