WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A south-central Kansas elementary school teacher has been sentenced to probation for driving drunk in a crash that killed a speeding motorcyclist.
On Friday, Judge Ted Griffith told Michelle Gottschalk she would face six months in jail if she fails to meet any of her probation requirements. The Wichita Eagle reported that those requirements include that she speak to students about the dangers of drinking and driving.
The 28-year-old motorcyclist, Wade Titus, died hours after June 2011 accident in far west Wichita. His mother, aunt and fiancie spoke about how his death affected them during the hearing.
Griffith said his deliberation wasn’t easy because “mistakes were made on both sides.” The defense says Titus was going about 120 mph. The prosecution had requested a sentence of six months in jail.
