As of 8:30 a.m. Monday: The Kansas Department of Transportation issued a correction, indicating westbound U-S 24 only would be impacted over the Big Blue River Bridge!!!!
EXPECT DELAYS on highway 24 in east Manhattan! Eastbound and westbound US-24 over Big Blue River Bridge at the east city limits of Manhattan will be reduced to one lane for polymer overlay work on the bridge deck, 24/7 round the clock, Monday through Friday, (October 22-26).
Crews will complete overlay work on the bridge deck one half at a time, so the lane closure over the bridge will switch sometime during the week. This overlay process is the last step needed to complete the repair and resurfacing work on the US-24 Big Blue River Bridge project.
Drivers will be directed through the project work zone via signage and cones. Drivers should expect major delays during peak morning and afternoon commutes and may want to use alternate routes during these lane closures.
The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, October 26, weather permitting.
