The Konza Prairie Biological Station is getting an upgrade, and becoming more welcoming to visiting researchers.
New Grants from the National Science Foundation, and the Manhattan-based Caroline Peine Charitable Foundation are being used to build and furnish a house at the Konza Prairie for visiting researchers. The new facility will have an energy efficient geothermal heating system, full kitchen, washer and dryer, and will hold 13 beds… doubling the current lodging capacity of the research compound.
Konza Prairie Director , K-state professor John Briggs says a recent increase in research being done at the facilty necessitated the change, and will increase the value of the Konza project.
The combined grants total $250,000 from the National Science Foundation, and $38,000 from the Caroline Peine Charitable Foundation. Konza officials say the house will work with other facilities in the area such as the Manhattan Regional Airport to help bring more research to the area.
