Macy Ubben, Krista Degeest, and Megan Lehman each had 11 kills as Northern Iowa defeated K-State 25-18, 25-13, 25-21 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Lincoln, NE. The Wildcat offense struggled throughout the match as they hit with just a .164 hitting efficiency. Kaitlynn Pelger led the team with seven kills.
The Wildcats lose five seniors, right side hitter Kathleen Ludwig, setter Caitlyn Donahue, middle blocker Alex Muff, libero Kuulei Kabalis, and defensive specialist Ali Boehler. Pelger, Lilla Porubek, Courtney Traxson, and Tristan McCarty will be returning starters in 2013 for K-State.
The season ends at 21-9 for the Wildcats, while 25-9 Northern Iowa moves on to play #4 national seed Nebraska on Friday night in the second round at 7:00pm.
