Suspect Arrested in Pottawatomie County Burglaries

A suspect have been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries in Pottawatomie County.

Christopher J. Webber, 29, of the 300 block of South Manhattan, was arrested by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday in connection with several burglaries having occurred in Pottawatomie County.

The Sheriff’s Office took a burglary report on September 29th in the rural Manhattan area.  This  burglary was followed over the coming weeks by three additional residential burglaries, and two car burglaries, all occurring East of Manhattan, North of Highway 24.

A break in the case came when the suspect came to yet another residence in this same area as the other burglaries.  This time however the alert homeowner who was at home noted  the suspects unusual behavior.

This homeowner contacted the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office with a vehicle description and license plate information.

The suspect vehicle was again seen by a Sheriff Patrol unit in the St.George area on Tuesday, October 30th.  The occupants fled the vehicle which led to a manhunt in the St.George area that involved several Sheriff Patrol units as well as  Kansas Highway Patrol and the KHP aircraft.

With this and other information, Sheriff Detectives identified a suspect and obtained search warrants for residence and vehicles in Riley and Pottawatomie Counties.

As a result of these warrants, a portion of the stolen property has been recovered.

Webber was arrested for several charges, including aggravated burglary, burglary and theft.  He is currently being held at the Pottawatomie County Jail on $100,000.
