Two New Jersey residents were arrested early Tuesday after Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s deputies recovered a stolen vehicle along I-70.

According to the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a westbound 2025 Nissan Altima near mile marker 328, in the vicinity of the Plaza of the Flint Hills, just after 2 a.m. The vehicle had been reported stolen to police in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Authorities said a deputy initiated a felony traffic stop after observing the driver fail to obey a posted stop sign. With assistance from the Wamego Police Department, both occupants were taken into custody without incident.

Fiorella L. Novoa, 40, of Kearny, New Jersey, was arrested on an allegation of theft of property valued between $1,500 and $25,000.

Jeffrey D. Chance, 37, of Aberdeen, New Jersey, was arrested on an allegation of transporting an open container of alcohol.

Deputies also recovered an open container of alcohol and suspected narcotics paraphernalia during the investigation.

Both individuals were transported to the Wabaunsee County Jail.
