Manhattan High Silences Red Demons

By KMAN Staff on December 7, 2012 K-State Sports

After a five hour trip, the Manhattan High basketball teams were not kind hosts to Dodge City on Friday night, taking both games in the doubleheader.  The Indian girls jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, but found themselves trailing the Lady Demons 17-12 midway through the second quarter.  MHS though would finish the half by scoring 12 points unanswered, and went on to the 53-38 victory over Dodge City.  Elayna Spilker made 14 of 17 free throw attempts, and scored 18 points to pace the Tribe (3-0).  Chandra Sain topped the Lady Demons (1-1) with 11 points.

The Manhattan boys only hit one of their first ten free throw attempts, but Chris Hudgins knocked five of six chances from the strip in the final two minutes in a 34-30 triumph over Dodge City.  Jacob Holloway made a trio of first half three pointers as the Tribe took a seven point lead early in the second quarter.  MHS would never give the lead up, even though the Red Demons pulled with a single point on three occasions in the second half.  Hudgins led the Indians (2-1) with 13 points.  Matt Goedeken topped Dodge City (1-1) with eight points.

Manhattan High will host Great Bend on Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm for a girl/boy doubleheader.  The pregame with John Kurtz will begin at 1:15 on 1350KMAN.com.
