Police Blotter 12/26/12

RCPD CruisersOne arrest of note was reported this past long weekend, with one woman facing aggravated arson charges.

Riley County police received a call from a 20 year old female around noon on the 24th.  The female reported she and her sister were involved in a domestic dispute.  A number of personal items were lit on fire by the sister, mainly clothing, summing up to a loss of $360.

Brandi Banks (18) of Manhattan was taken into custody Monday afternoon at 2:30 at her home in the 1500 block of Oxford Place.

Charges include aggravated arson and criminal damage to property. Banks’ bond was set at $5,000.

When responding to a medical call, RCPD discover an unattended death.

Around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Riley County police received a medical call from Lynda Phillips (56).

Upon arrival, police found Paul Sickels (68) deceased in his home on the 700 block of East Marlatt Avenue.

The coroner believes Sickels died of natural causes and no autopsy was requested.

A Christmas morning traffic accident resulted in a transport.

Around 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, a traffic accident occurred on the 900 block of Sunset Avenue, just south of College Heights.

Greig Olney (52) of Manhattan, was driving southbound on Sunset when he struck a power pole.  Olney suffered minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Regional where he was treated and released.

Fatigue, or falling asleep, is said to be a contributing factor in this incident.  Alcohol is also being investigated as an additional factor.

The pole that was struck is owned by Westar Energy, and no reports of power loss were reported.

A traffic accident involving a fixed object resulted in a transport Saturday evening.

Around 7:00 p.m., Bradley Reemers (33) was driving near Tuttle Creek Boulevard and Melgren, when his mini van lost control and veered into a ditch.

The wheelchair driver’s system in his car stopped working, which caused the vehicle to veer and strike a fence.

Reemers suffered minor facial cuts and was transported to Mercy Regional Health Center where he was treated and released.

An unknown passenger was also in the vehicle and suffered back injuries. The passenger was transported to Mercy as well.

Riley County Police received a report of suspicious activity at the Manhattan Town Center on Christmas Eve.

Around 1:15 p.m. Monday, an 18 year old male said he observed a male and a female loading weapons into a vehicle.  Officers responded and were unable to locate the vehicle described.

This case is still under investigation.
