After seeing an eight point lead evaporate in the final 8:42, Brittany Chambers found Chantay Caron underneath the basket for the game-winning layup with 3.7 seconds left as the K-State women beat TCU 59-58 in the first Big 12 meeting between the two schools. The Cats led 49-41 before the Horned Frogs slowly worked their way back into the game, taking a 55-54 lead with 1:42 to go on a pair of free throws by Kamy Cole. TCU would stretch their lead to four in the final minute, but a trey by Bri Craig with 0:44 remaining brought K-State within 58-57. On the next possession, the Horned Frogs took a timeout with 18.7 seconds to go, but Caron stole the inbounds pass. TCU defended K-State well on the final Wildcat possession, but Chambers split a Horned Frog double team and found Caron underneath the basket.
Texada led the K-State (10-4, 1-1) with 22 points, Craig had 14 points, Chambers added 10, and Caron wound up with 9. Latricia Loving topped TCU (7-6, 0-2) with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
The K-State women will travel to Texas Tech on Wednesday for a 7:00pm tipoff. Pregame in Lubbock from the K-State Sports Network with Brian Smoller and Danielle Zanotti begins at 6:30 on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN.
