TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A Republican leader in the Kansas Senate says he and his colleagues expect to unveil proposed changes in the chamber’s rules by the end of the week.
Incoming Senate Vice President Jeff King said Tuesday that members of a GOP leadership committee plan to circulate a draft of their proposals before the annual session begins next week.
The Independence Republican said a vote on the proposals should come early next week.
While King didn’t say what rules changes would be sought, Republican senators are considering eliminating a leadership panel that makes committee assignments and giving that power to the Senate president.
They’re also considering establishing a standing Rules Committee and having its chairman settle disputes over applying the chamber’s rules.
