    Manhattan Wrestling Finishes 7th at Newton

    At one of the top tournaments in the state each year, the Manhattan High wrestling team came in 7th in the team standings of the Newton Tournament of Champions on Saturday.  4-time defending Nebraska state champion Grand Island brought home the team title,  Ark City was second, while Newton and Garden City tied for third.

    Six Manhattan High wreslters placed at the TOC, led by 145-pound Davis Matthews, who lost a 2-1 decision to Cody Eastman of Ark City in Saturday night’s finals.  Matthews received a second place medal.  113-pound Jase Stone and 160-pound Austin Chauncey both were third.  120-pound Kian Clemens and 152-pound Michael Leeper both finished fifth, and 126-pound Dallas Vesta was sixth.

    Up next for Manhattan High wrestling will be a trip next Friday and Saturday to the Blue Valley Northwest Invite.  The meet will start at 4:00pm on Friday afternoon, and 10:00am Saturday morning.
