Anna Prins used her considerable size advantage to tally 18 points and Chelsea Poppens added 14 points to lead 24th-ranked Iowa State to a 69-50 over a struggling Kansas State Women’s Basketball team before 4,525 Saturday afternoon at Bramlage Coliseum.

The Cyclones jumped out to a huge lead in the first half as Poppens who is 6’2″ was able to score easy baskets over a K-State squad that had no player taller than 5’11” on the court. The Cyclones carried a 39-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Wildcats had more success in the second half and cut the deficit to 52-37 at one point but the Cyclones used an 11-1 run to push the advantage back to 25 points at 63-38. Trailing 67-40 K-State made one more push with a 10-0 run late in the game before Iowa State finished the scoring with one last basket.

In additions to Prins and Poppens, Hallie Christofferson added 12 points and Nicole Blaskowsky posted 11. Brittany Chambers had another strong game for Kansas State (13-14, 4-11) leading the Wildcats with 18 points while Mariah White poured in 17.

Saturday’s game was part of the Play for Kay initiative which is meant to raise awareness of Breast Cancer. The special day is in honor of the late Women’s College Coach Kay Yow. The Wildcats wore special Pink uniforms while Iowa State wore home White uniforms trimmed in Pink instead of their usual Cardinal and Gold.

K-State is back on the road Tuesday night to face West Virginia. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
