    K-State Baseball Falls to Minnesota

Mark Tatera cleared the bases with a three-run triple to give Minnesota the lead for good in an 8-3 victory over K-State on Tuesday night at Tointon Family Stadium.   Wildcat starting pitcher Jake Doller cruised into the 6th inning and got the first two outs before an error started a two-out rally for the Golden Gophers, aided by a walk and a hit by pitch.  Minnesota would score four runs in the inning with Tatera’s triple and he scored on an RBI single from Troy Larson.  The Gophers would put up another four-spot in the seventh.

K-State missed out on opportunities for big innings of their own as they stranded 10 runners on the night.  The Cats loaded the bases with just one out in the second inning, but only managed a run when Blair DeBord walked and forced in a run.  K-State would score two runs in the seventh with a sacrifice fly by Tanner Witt, and an RBI single from Jared King.  The Cats could’ve had more in the inning, but Ross Kivett got tagged out trying to advance to second base on the sac fly.  As it was, Witt and King led K-State offensively with a pair of hits.

Doller (2-1) suffered the loss for the Cats, despite not giving up an earned run.  Kevin Kray (1-0) pitched the fifth inning to grab the win for Minnesota.

K-State will try to earn a split of the midweek series with Minnesota on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00pm at Tointon Family Stadium.  The BD4 Distributing pregame show begins at 2:30 on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN with Matt Walters and Rob Voelker.
