K-State Football Opener Moved to Friday, August 30

Kansas State Athletics officials announced Tuesday in a press release that the 2013 season opener for the 2012 Big 12 Champions against two-time defending FCS National Champion North Dakota State has been moved to Friday, August 30 from the original date of Saturday, August 31.

According to the press release the change was made to help with the debut of Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports’ new 24/7 Sports Channel set to debut in August. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. The game will be part of the fifth annual K-State Family Reunion and will culminate with a post-game fireworks display.

The game will also feature the debut of the new $75 million West Stadium Center at Bill Snyder Family Stadium slated for significant completion by late August. North Dakota State has won the last two National Championships in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division 1-AA) and is coached by former Nebraska assistant coach Craig Bohl.

The contest will mark just the third non-Saturday game all-time at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The other two were both Thursday night affairs against Iowa State in 1992 and Nebraska in 2010. It will also serve as the first regular season Friday night game for the Big 12 Champions. K-State has played four bowl games on Friday nights (1995 Holiday, 2002 Holiday, 2004 Fiesta and 2012 Cotton)
