K-State Women Knock Off Tech

Brittany Chambers made her final regular season home game count at a time the Kansas State Women’s Basketball team really needed it as she poured in 31 points to lead the Wildcats to a 68-62 victory over Texas Tech before a Senior Day crowd of 3,601 Saturday afternoon at Bramlage Coliseum.

Chambers and Mariah White, the only two seniors on the squad were playing at Bramlage Coliseum likely for the final time in their careers. There is still the outside possibility that with some help, the Wildcats could host a WNIT game at Bramlage sometime later this month. While White was held to six points in the contest, Chambers took control early as she hit the bulk of her five three point baskets in the first half allowing K-State to take a 27-18 lead. However, the Red Raiders then went on a 17-3 run that spanned both halves to lead 35-30 early in the second half.

However, Chambers got the Cats back on track with another three-pointer and eventually K-State stretched the lead to as much as 11 points while never alloweing Texas Tech to get closer than four points the rest of the game. Joining Chambers in double figures were Brianna Craig with 14 points and Chantay Caron with 10. It was the second straight game that Chambers broke the 30-point barrier after tallying a career-high 36 points Tuesday night in a loss at West Virginia. Saturday’s win ended a four-game losing streak and a stretch that saw K-State lose eight of its previous nine games.

Kansas State (14-15, 5-12) will wrap up the regular season on the road Monday night at defending National Champion Baylor. The top-ranked Lady Bears defeated K-State 90-69 on January 16 at Bramlage. Tipoff for that game is set for 7 p.m. The Wildcats will then open play in the Big 12 Tournament on Friday, March 8 in Dallas against Texas. The Cats and Longhorns split their two regular season meetings with each team winning on their home court. Tipoff for that game will be at 6 p.m.
