    Northern Colorado Stuns K-State

By KMAN Staff on March 14, 2013 K-State Sports

Josh Tinnon pitched 7 2/3 innings of scoreless, four-hit baseball and Northern Colorado shut out K-State 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Tointon Family Stadium.  The Cats didn’t manage a hit until the sixth on a Ross Kivett single, and a runner didn’t get past second base until the bottom of the eighth, when runners were stranded on first and third.  Tinnon (1-1) gave way to Kevin Willman, who picked up his third save for the Bears.

Kivett was the only player for K-State with two hits, and Shane Conlon saw his 15-game hitting streak came to an end.  Conlon nearly beat out an infield single in the first inning, but the throw nipped him at the bag.  Blake McFadden (1-1) took the loss for the Cats, giving up two runs on eight hits in four and one third innings with four strikeouts.  Levi MaVorhis gave up the other run to Northern Colorado in the ninth inning.

K-State will open Big 12 play on Friday night against West Virginia at 6:30pm at Tointon Family Stadium.  The BD4 Distributing pregame show begins at 6:00 on KMAN.
