    Riley County, Wamego girls prepare for State

    The Riley County Falcons and Wamego girl’s basketball teams have both made it through tough sub state brackets to reach their respective state tournaments beginning later this week. Riley County beat Osage City, Council Grove and Silver Lake to win a 3A sub state championship. The Lady Falcons (17-5) are the seven seed in the 3A state tournament and they will play the number two seed Garden Plain (22-1) on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in Hutchinson at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Riley County and Garden Plain will be playing the first of four games on Wednesday. The other three games that will follow are #3 Caney Valley (20-1) vs. #6 Russell (18-5), #1 Burlington (23-0) vs. #8 Sabetha (17-6) and #4 Hillsboro (21-2) vs. #5 Holcomb (19-4).

    The Wamego Lady Raiders beat Highland Park, Hayden and Holton to win a 4A sub state championship. The Lady Raiders (22-1) are the number one seed in the 4A state tournament and they will play the number eight seed Pratt (14-9) on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in Salina at the Bicentennial Center. Wamego and Pratt will be the first of four games played on Thursday. The other three games that will follow are #4 Fort Scott (17-5) vs. #5 Clearwater (16-6), #2 McPherson (20-3) vs. #7 Labette County (15-7) and #3 Paola (18-4) vs. #6 Tonganoxie (15-7).
