After Tuesday’s General election, the Pottawatomie County Commissioners took some time to canvass the votes to make sure everything was as it should be, showing only one tie.
With the flip of a coin, the mayor of Emmett was decided upon, choosing Robert Blair.
The commission also had an opportunity to hear from Chad Bunger, floodplain manager with the city of Manhattan, as he presented a proposal for the Big Blue River and a floodplain management plan for the area.
The commission decided to support the work to be done.
Bruce Brazzle, fire supervisor, took some time to relate to the commission that he would appreciate if people would avoid burning during this time as the drought is causing some extra work on keeping fires under control .
Brazzle mentioned the fires have been acting “strangely” as they have been seen to hop over roads they usually don’t.
If anyone is in desperate need of burning and can’t wait, Brazzle asks you to follow these guidelines.
-You must have a burn permit.
-Have a plan; have adequate equipment and help, a water source and drinking water.
-Before starting any burn always check the weather forecast with the National Weather Service fire information for Kansas, select Pottawatomie County; or just go to the pottcounty.org and click County Burn Policy Status.
The commission will meet again next Monday.
