By KMAN Staff on April 26, 2013 K-State Sports

Freshman right hander Levi Mavorhis pitched five and a third scoreless innings in his first career start and K-State claimed a 6-1 victory over TCU on Friday night at Tointon Family Stadium.  MaVorhis (4-0) did give up eight hits, but worked his way out of trouble throughout the ballgame.  Gerardo Esquivel needed just four pitches to finish the sixth inning, Jake Matthys gave up a run in two innings, and Tanner Witt shut it down in the ninth.

Jared King had two hits and three RBI, a two-run double to put K-State up 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth, and an RBI single during a two-run eighth.  Shane Conlon had K-State’s other extra base hit with a triple in the eighth, and scored on King’s hit.  Ross Kivett knocked in the first Wildcat run of the game in the bottom of the third with an RBI single.

TCU’s Preston Morrison (6-2) entered the game with a 1.06 ERA, but took the loss by surrendering four runs, three of which were earned, on six hits in five and two thirds innings.  Paul Hendrix knocked in the Horned Frogs’ only in the top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly.

K-State (30-13, 8-5 Big 12) will go for the series victory over TCU (19-22, 7-9) on Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm at Tointon Family Stadium.  SportsRadio 1350 KMAN will broadcast the game beginning at first pitch.
