Jeremy Guthrie was putting an eighteen game unbeaten streak on the line last night in LA against the Angels. He was fortunate enough to take a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning, but it was all down hill from there. Guthrie (5-1) yielded five runs and eleven hits over seven innings. He held the franchise record for consecutive starts without a loss while winning his previous 10 decisions. It was his first defeat since Aug. 3 last year, when Texas beat him 5-3 in Kansas City.
The Angels bats came alive for the first time this series. Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, Howie Kendrick and Mike Trout all hit home runs off the right-hander in a 6-2 victory for LA. Billy Butler led the way for the Royals (19-17) with a couple of hits and driving in both of the Royals only runs of the ball game. The offense slowed down once again for KC with just six hits total in the game. Its been all about inconsistency so far this season at the plate for the Royals.
The rubber match of the series will be held tonight as the Angels will send Barry Enright (0-1) to the mound and the Royals will counter with Wade Davis (2-3). First pitch from LA is scheduled for 9:05 pm.
