Brandon Bolden, a guard from Sumter, South Carolina who played last season for Georgetown University has been added to the Kansas State Men’s Basketball program in an announcement made today by Head Coach Bruce Weber. The full release from K-State Athletics Communications is below.
Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber announced today the addition of sophomore forward Brandon Bolden (Sumter, S.C./Quality Education (N.C.) Academy/Georgetown University) to the Wildcat men’s basketball program.
A transfer from Georgetown, Bolden will receive a scholarship to attend the university and will have three years of eligibility after he sits out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA transfer rules. He is the second Division I transfer to be added to the Wildcat roster, joining junior guard Justin Edwards (Whitby, Ontario/Anderson CVI/University of Maine), who announced his intention to transfer to K-State on May 9 after two seasons at Maine.
“We are very excited to add Brandon to our program,” said Weber. “With such a large incoming freshmen class, we really wanted to add a more experienced player to our team plus we needed someone with his kind of size and length. I think the year off will be great for Brandon to not only develop and improve his game, but also to get stronger in the weight room. He will be a great asset next season just as a practice player to make our guys better.”
A 6-foot-10, 210-pound forward from Sumter, S.C., Bolden transfers to K-State after playing one season at Georgetown in 2012-13 for head coach John Thompson III. He helped the Hoyas to a 25-7 overall record this past season and a share of the Big East title with a 14-4 record. He played in just four games as a true freshman, registering just five minutes of playing time with no statistics.
A 2012 graduate of Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, N.C., Bolden led the Fighting Pharoahs to a 23-6 overall record and 10-1 mark in league play as a senior in 2011-12, playing alongside incoming Wildcat freshman Jevon Thomas. As a senior, he was rated as the No. 14 center prospect in the country and the No. 81 overall player in the Class of 2012 by Rivals.com. He chose Georgetown over offers from a number of schools, including Baylor, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, VCU and Virginia Tech.
Bolden is the seventh player to sign with the Wildcats this season, joining Edwards and incoming freshmen Neville Fincher (Teaneck, N.J./Hargrave Military Academy), Marcus Foster (Wichita Falls, Texas/Hirschi), Wesley Iwundu (Houston, Texas/Westfield), Nigel Johnson (Ashburn, Va./Riverdale Baptist School)and Jevon Thomas (Queens, N.Y./St. John’s [Wis.] Northwest Military Academy). Foster and Iwundu signed in the early signing period in the Fall, while Johnson, Fincher and Thomas joined the squad during the current Spring signing period.
Led by 2013 Big 12 Coach of the Year Bruce Weber, Kansas State enjoyed one of its best men’s basketball seasons in 2012-13, posting a 27-8 overall record and 14-4 mark in league play en route to its first-ever Big 12 regular season championship and a fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The 27 wins were the second-most in school history, while the 14 in league play tied the school record held by the 1958-59 team. The league championship was the 18th in school history and the first since the 1976-77 season.

The Wildcats will return eight lettermen in 2013-14, including two starters, highlighted by All-Big 12 honorable mention honoree Shane Southwell.
