K-State missed out on it’s chance to sweep Oklahoma for the first time since 1990 in a 7-3 loss Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats outhit the Sooners 14 to 7, but stranded 13 base runners in the final game of the weekend series.
Jared King’s RBI single in the bottom of the first gave K-State an early 1-0 lead, but Oklahoma came back with three runs in the top of the second to take the lead for good. The Sooners added to that advantage with a run in the fourth and three in the eighth, and they led 7-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth.
K-State got two back in the eighth to cut the lead to four, but the Wildcats left the bases loaded after Tanner Witt flew out to right field.
Jake Doller (2-3), who lasted just an inning and a third, took the loss for K-State. Oklahoma’s Jake Fisher got the win after striking out nine and allowing just two earned runs in seven innings.
K-State ends the regular season at 39-16 and 16-8 in the Big 12. The Big 12 champions head to Oklahoma City as the top overall seed in the Big 12 tournament and will take on Texas Tech in their tournament opener at 12:30 PM on Wednesday.
