The availability of All-Big 12 shortstop Austin Fisher is still up in the air for K-State’s NCAA Regional match up with Wichita State tomorrow. Fisher hasn’t played since the first game of the Oklahoma series nearly two weeks ago due to a back injury.
“Fisher will be a game time decision tomorrow,” K-State head coach Brad Hill said at NCAA Regional media day Thursday.
Fisher led the Big 12 with a .412 average in league games this season. Freshman Lance Miles has filled in for Fisher since the Oklahoma series.
Starting pitcher Joe Flattery also missed time last week due to injury, but he should be available for this weekend.
“Joe looks to be back and ready to go this week,” Hill said. “It makes you nervous because he hasn’t pitched in two weeks, but he’ll be the guy we would go with on the second day as long as he still feels good.”
Flattery is 4-4 with a 4.02 ERA this season in 17 appearances. He shutout the Oklahoma Sooners through five and a third innings while allowing just three hits in his last start on May 18th.
K-State is scheduled to start Freshman Levi MaVorhis (5-0, 3.51 ERA) tomorrow afternoon against Wichita State’s Cale Elam (7-4, 2.60 ERA) to open up the Manhattan Regional. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM. Pregame coverage starts at 1:30 on Sports Radio 1350 KMAN.
