Jeremy Guthrie, Royals Beat Orioles to Avoid Sweep

The Kansas City Royals were trying to snap a three game losing streak as well as avoid their first sweep of the season. The offense saw a little more life as the Royals smashed out three home runs in a 6-2 victory against the Orioles. Jeremy Guthrie (5-0)  has been a quiet force for Kansas City this season, last night he pitched six innings allowing only one earned run and with the performance he lowered his ERA to 2.28.

Alex Gordan and Eric Hosmer homered in a four run fourth inning off Orioles starter Freddy Garcia. Mike Moustakas homered in the seventh inning to extend the Royals lead and the bullpen came back with a strong performance after struggling in previous outings. Aaron Crow, Kelvin Herrera and Luke Hochevar pitched three scoreless innings only allowing one hit and striking out a combined five batters.

The Royals are welcomed back to Kauffman Stadium this weekend for a three game series with the New York Yankees. The Royals will send Wade Davis to the mound for Kansas City and the Yankees will counter with Phil Hughes. First pitch from Kansas City tonight is set for 7:10 pm.
