K-State Hosts Arkansas, Bryant and Wichita State

K-State will welcome in Arkansas, Bryant and Wichita State to the first ever NCAA baseball regional in Manhattan this weekend.

The Wildcats are the number one seed in the regional, and will face fourth seeded Wichita State on Friday at 2:00 PM. The game will be televised on ESPNU. You can also hear the game on Sports Radio 1350 KMAN.

The Wildcats beat the Shockers twice this year, 7-6 in Manhattan on April 9th and 4-1 in Wichita on April 16th, which was the fourth sweep of WSU since 2005. Wichita State is in the field for the first time since 2009 after winning four straight elimination games in the Missouri Valley tournament to lock up an automatic NCAA regional appearance.

Arkansas was considered by many to be a candidate to host a regional, but the Razorbacks were sent to Manhattan after finishing with a 37-20 record this season.

The Razorbacks will open the Manhattan Regional with the Bryant Bulldogs (44-16-1) who won the Northeast Conference championship.

The winner of the Manhattan regional will play in the Corvallis super regional, hosted by Oregon State.

K-State enters regional play at 41-17 after winning their first regular season conference championship since 1933. The Wildcats are making their fourth regional appearance in five years.

“I am very proud of this team and what they have accomplished this year,” said head coach Brad Hill in a statement. “I am extremely happy that we are able to bring a NCAA Regional to the K-State and Manhattan communities. We have worked extremely hard to have the opportunity to reward our great fan base, alumni and university by hosting a regional.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State also made the field from the Big 12. The Sooners are a two seed in the Blacksburg Regional and Oklahoma State is a three seed in the Louisville Regional.

North Carolina is the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament. The full bracket is available on the NCAA official website.
