Department heads were present during Monday’s Pottawatomie County Commission meeting as a legislative update was slated for discussion.
As part of the discussion, Randall Allen, Executive Director of the Kansas Association of Counties, referred to the sales tax issues and how the decision will be determined before the end of the session at the end of the month.
The issue holds on whether or not to let the 6/10 sales tax to sunset or not. As part of the discussion, Allen stated the House does want the sales tax to end.
Gary Yenzer, county commissioner, referenced Manhattan and how the public decided to keep the sales tax as there were benefits and maybe that’s what the state should do.
There was also some talk concerning insurance on an individual level. But, at this point, not much information was presented.
After the updates was over, those not on the agenda returned to their business and the commission moved on to regular business.
On the agenda, Tim Eisenbarth, Noxious Weed Department Director, talked of April numbers and also about the Free Day earlier in April.
Scott Schwinn, County Sanitarian and Transfer Station Landfill Supervisor, also talked about his department and the numbers.
Gregg Webster, zoning administrator, and Leslie Campbell, health department director, were also on the agenda, along with the monthly update from Dan Rowe, with Treanor Architects.
Next Monday will hold the commission’s next meeting.
