RCPD Arrests Two For Vehicle Burglaries

0
By KMAN Staff on May 24, 2013 Local News, Manhattan, Riley County

As a result of an ongoing investigation into multiple vehicle burglaries in the Manhattan area, RCPD has announced the successful arrests of two subjects believed to be responsible for victimizing over thirty community members since at least last month. On Friday, May 24, 2013, at approximately 03:15:00 AM officers responded to the area of the 2500 block of Farm Bureau Road for a report of vehicle burglary. The 2500 block of Farm Bureau Road (Redbud Estates) was identified by the RCPD Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) as an Initiative: Laser Point area for its higher statistical likelihood for crime, prior to this incident. CIU was also able to pinpoint a more specific area in this mobile home community, leading to a more effective response to these crimes.

Laser Point is a program that was created by the Riley County Police Department, based on the Hot Spot Policing concept which places officers in areas where they are more effective at reducing crime throughout the jurisdiction. This program is made possible by the work of the CIU, who utilize data driven policing methods to assist officers in identifying areas of greater risk by day and approximate time of forecasted crimes.

With the combined efforts of Dispatchers, Detectives from the Investigations Division, and Patrol Officers, RCPD conducted an early morning inquiry into these most recent vehicle burglaries. This led to the arrest of Dustin Thomure, 21, of 2500 Farm Bureau Road #363 and a 16 year old juvenile male of Manhattan. Both were confined for the offenses of burglary. Thomure was also arrested for contributing to a child’s misconduct and was held in lieu of a $23,000.00 bond. The juvenile male was transported to the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Facility in Junction City, Kansas due to his age.

A search warrant was also executed as a result of this investigation and ultimately led officers and detectives to the recovery of many items that are suspected to be stolen. Riley County Police Department served this search warrant in the morning hours of May 24, 2013 at Thomure’s residence in Manhattan. RCPD will soon be contacting potential victims, if possible, in an attempt to return these items.

“It’s a great example of the teamwork and smart policing efforts I get to see every day at work and I couldn’t be more proud of this community’s police department.” –Public Information Officer, Matthew Droge.
