The Kansas City Royals are out on the east coast starting with a three game series against the Baltimore Orioles. Ervin Santana made the start for Kansas City and he had stellar numbers entering the game on Tuesday night. He came into the game with a 3-1 record with an ERA slightly above two.
Santana gave up three runs in the first inning but settled down after that and gave up the three runs, on seven hits in six innings of work, he also struck out four. Alcides Escobar got the Royals on the board in the third with an RBI single scoring Miguel Tejada to make the score 3-1 in favor of Baltimore.
In the top of the seventh inning, Alex Gordan came to the plate with a runner on base and blasted a two run home run to tie the game at three. The bullpen was called to action in the seventh inning with Tim Collins and he was able to sit down the Orioles in the seventh with no harm done. In the eighth inning, Collins gave up a walk and that ended his evening. Luke Hochevar came on to shut the door but Matt Weiters hit an RBI double down the left field line which scored the eventual game winning run for Baltimore giving them a 4-3 lead.
The Royals didn’t threaten in the ninth and Baltimore sealed the victory. The Royals and Orioles are back in action for game two of the series on Wednesday night. The Royals will start RHP Luis Mendoza and the Orioles will start Chris Tillman, first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm.
