    Special Olympic Torch Is Passed

    torch

Law enforcement officers from all across the state of Kansas are coming together to take part in a very important part of the special olympic games. Like the olympic torch, the special olympics torch is passed from hand to hand as it travels around the state in various legs. This morning, officials from the Pottowatomie Sheriffs Office completed their leg of the race and handed the torch to officers from the Riley County Police Department.

Detective Brian Johnson from the investigation division of the RCPD says the torch run is a way that “law enforcement officials can show support for the special olympics not only in the state of Kansas, but nationwide as well”

There were five representatives from the RCPD, and all were stretching and loosening up as they prepared to take the torch shortly after 10:00. The Pottowatomie County delegation, which had the torch mailed to them from the Special Olympics office, handed it off and the Riley County officers started on the fifteen mile run to Fort Riley, where MPs from the base were ready to take the torch from them
