Two K-State juniors have been taken in the 2013 MLB draft.

Jared King was the first Wildcat off the board, selected as a left fielder, in the fifth round at pick 146 by the New York Mets. King is hitting .327 this year with six home runs and a team-leading 51 RBI’s. Jared’s brother Jason King is currently playing under the Detroit Tigers minor League system with the Class A Midwest League West Michigan Whitecaps. Jason was a fourth round draft pick in 2011.

Ross Kivett was taken five rounds later by the Cleveland Indians at pick number 291 overall. Kivett is an Ohio native, hailing from Broadview Heights, Ohio, and grew up and Indians fan. Kivett was the Big 12 player of the year after leading K-State in batting average (.363) and stolen bases (26).

Game one of K-State’s super regional with Oregon State is tomorrow (Saturday) with pregame coverage from the K-State sports network at 5:30 pm, and first pitch set for 6:00 pm. All games of the Super Regional can be heard on Sports Radio 1350.
